Welcome to Cambrian iPad Users Wiki

Our iPad Users group was started to provide support and collaboration for members of the iPad Academy and other iPad users in our district. Our goal is to provide authentic and meaningful learning opportunities for our students through the use of technology, when appropriate. Additionally, we are finding ways to help ourselves be more efficient and effective educators and life long learners. Finally, we are interested in providing a repository of best practices for any educator interested in helping their students become successful 21st century students and citizens.

Our Model - background
At Cambrian Union School District, we are trying a new approach as we investigate new technologies. Rather than roll out a one-size-fits-all mandate that you will use this new 'box', which then, in some cases, may also sit gathering dust, we have implemented the Academy Model. Early in the last school year we announced the Digital Media Academy, and March 2012, the iPad Academy. In the Academy Model, teachers with an interest may apply to participate. Teachers are expected to use the technology with their students, create lesson plans, research and develop best practices, and share what they have learned with colleagues.

Teachers are using the same 21st century skills we hope to instill in our students; critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, creativity, communication as well as developing information, media and technology literacy. In return, teachers receive hardware, software, and targeted, relevant PD from high-quality instructors and the time to try out new ideas in their classrooms. With the Academy model, our attitude is, "feed the rabbits", that is, provide the information and technology to a few willing and dedicated individuals, who will then encourage others through their example. As more teachers see meaningful ways to use the technology, we will get more creative in finding ways to fund the roll out of emerging technologies to more classrooms.
